The TEOffice (TE-palvelut) can help you find a job. You can register for seeking a job in the E-service- platform and you will also find vacant jobs and postitions on the Työmarkkinatori-website. From the begin of 2025 the main TE-Office service point will be in Kotka, but also some office hours will be in Hamina. TE customer service will also help you to that provides information and answers to questions related to unemployment security in Finland.

Tervasaari residential area is quite a new area, close to the city centre, next to Park Oolanti. The area consists of two apartment buildings, one is owned by Hamina Asunnot (city of Hamina) offering rental apartments and the other has private owned apartments.

The Vilniemi area is a residential area close to the sea and Pitkäthiekat public beach area. The area has mainly detached houses and has great outdoor options for example for hiking and mountain biking.

First steps in Hamina

Getting around in Hamina
In Hamina city centre, most of the services are by walking distance or within a short bike ride. Local bus is called Jonne & Minne and offers bus connections between Hamina and Kotka and to other suburbs of Hamina.
From Hamina to Helsinki and Hamina to Lappeenranta, there are daily long distance bus connections . Nearest trains station is in Kyminlinna/ Kotka, and there are multiply train connections daily to Kouvola.

Local buses: Local bus runs in Hamina suburbs and between Hamina and Kotka. Main bus station is located next to the main bus station (Rautatienkatu 2, 49400 Hamina)
- Bus number 1 goes twice an hour to Kotka ( approx. 50min bus drive).
- Tickets can be bought with cash from the driver or via Waltti-app. Waltti-card can for seasonal tickets can be bought in the cafeteria of the Hamina Spa & Swimming pool

Long-distance buses towards Lappeenranta, Imatra and towards Helsinki departs from the main bus station opposite of the K-market Kanuuna. (Rautatienkatu 1). Bus ride to Helsinki is about 2 h 15 min.
Onnibus.com is famous for the red double decker buses and the fares are starting from 1€+ booking fee of 1€. Onnibus.com has bus connections in all over Finland. Onnibus.com has their own app, where you can buy tickets.
Vuorela liikenne offers mainly bus connections in the route of Virolahti-Hamina-Helsinki. You can book tickets online or from the driver.

Nearest train station is in Kyminlinna in Kotka. You can reach the train station via local bus number 1 from Hamina. There are multiple daily local trains between Kotka-Kouvola. The national train operation is called VR (Valtion Rautatie). There is a small parking area in Kyminlinna train stop. You have to buy train ticket before entering to train. You can buy tickets online or from R-kiosks.

- There is also ticket called “ Kymenlaakso”-ticket that allows you to travel from Hamina to Kouvola or Kouvola to Hamina with 7€. (adult) The ticket is valid on the local bus ( Jonne & Minne) and VR- train.

City bikes: In the summer there are orange city bikes in Hamina, Kotka and Pyhtää called Kaakau-bikes or Donkey bikes. You need an app to be able to rent a bike. Rental fees start from 1€/ 15 min.

Car parking: Hamina is well known that there are no car parking fees in the public streets in the city centre. Please note that for example in the garage of S-market and parking lot of Lidl- supermarket there is a private parking area, and free parking for 2 hours with only a parking disc. Please note that in residential areas there might be reserved car places for residents only.

Education in Finland and Hamina
The Finnish education system consists of early childhood education and care, preschool, comprehensive school, upper secondary education, vocational education and training and higher education. Compulsory education starts with comprehensive school and ends at the age of 18.
Education all the way from pre-primary to higher education is free of charge in Finland. In addition, Finnish teachers are highly educated and strongly committed to their work.

After comprehensive school, students continue to the upper secondary level and choose between general education and vocational education and training.
General upper secondary education (lukio in Finnish) provides, as its name suggests, general education. It does not qualify students for any particular occupation. At the end of general upper secondary school, students take a national school-leaving examination known as the Finnish matriculation examination. Those who pass the examination are eligible to apply for further studies at universities, universities of applied sciences and vocational institutes. General upper secondary education usually takes three years to complete.

Hamina Spa & Swimming pool: Hamina Spa (Linnoituksen uimahalli) is located at the Hamina city centre next to market square. A public pool is open year-round.

The main library in Hamina is located on Rautatienkatu 8. You can get the library card for free. Take ID- with you when getting the card. In Ruissalo main school building, there is also a small library.
