Support for learning and school attendance
If learning is challenging for the child, the child may receive support with schoolwork.
The child may receive general, intensified or special support.
The level of support can vary throughout the education path.
The support can for instance be remedial teaching, special needs education, help from an instructor or differentiation.
Differentiation means that teaching, learning materials or the amount of assignments is adjusted individually to match the pupil’s needs.
Support for learning can also mean using particular priority areas in a subject.
In this case, the aim is to only study the core contents of the subject.
Particular priority areas can only be used during intensified or special support.
Priority areas are only defined for the subjects where the pupil needs them. The included content is defined in a learning plan or an individual educational plan (IEP=HOJKS).
If the objectives of the subjects are too difficult for the child, it is possible to individualise the objects of the syllabus. This means that they are made easier and suitable for the child. The pupil must have a decision on special support.
Negotiations and documents related to the support provided to the pupil
There are various negotiations and pedagogical documents related to the support provided to the pupil.
If the support provided to the pupil is adjusted between general and intensified support, a document titled pedagogical assessment is drafted.
If the support provided to the pupil is adjusted between intensified and special support, a document titled pedagogical statement is drafted.
The decision on the arrangements for the special support is made in the decision on special support. If matters in the decision on special support need to be changed, a new pedagogical statement is made. The decision on special support is also always reviewed after grade 2 and before starting grade 7.
A negotiation is also organised every school year to plan the support provided for the pupil.
A document titled learning plan is prepared for a pupil in intensified support. It is also possible to use a learning plan for a pupil in general support.
